My primary phone is not Android-based, and I want to use some wonderful radio apps that are available on the platform. Even if it were, I prefer having a portable, dedicated device that lives in my go bag. I purchased an inexpensive Android phone (Galaxy A03s), which is not connected to any phone network.
I use my primary phone’s hotspot for the rare occasion I need to connect the dedicated phone to the internet. The radio apps that benefit from internat access, like Parks on the Air, run on the primary phone for convenience and it is nice to have two screen at times.
For now the dedicated phone has FT8CN installed and the live phone has World Radio League installed.
I connect it to my Yaesu FT-891 transceiver with a Digi-Rig dr-891 interface.
